Fiona started painting under the guidance of late Alfred Ewen, a well known Eastern Cape watercolour artist and academic. Fiona draws from life experiences and prefers to make suggestions rather than statements or descriptions. Fiona paints mostly in mixed media. She seeks to make a spontaneous mark using a variety of subjects, landscapes, abstracts, figures and floral studies. Painting is like meditation for her, a state of being, both calm and intense. The art piece is a collage at times, layering, rubbing, adding and removing paint as she goes along. She applies more paint as forms emerge and disappear, until the perfect balance is reached, like a whisp of smoke, seen and not seen, here now and gone in an instant. The challenge for her is to capture those moments and create a visual beauty. Fiona is represented in corporate and private collections world wide and has had over 25 solo exhibitions, mainly in Gauteng and Eastern Cape. |
